Running Against Father Time

I love running. I’m not all that good at but I’ve been running for the better part of the past 20 years. I’ve run 10k’s, 5k’s and half marathons.

My times are not the fastest or the slowest, but I’ve tried to be consistent.

I’m in my 60’s now, and I fight a daily battle with Type 1 Diabetes. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do no that I’m not going to stop doing the things I love anytime soon. I want to live a long life and enjoy time with my new grandson, my daughters and especially the love of my life, Cara.

In life It’s not about the times, the wins or the losses, It’s about grinding and moving. I believe that we can change the quality of our life by keeping moving. It doesn’t matter what your age, height or weight. Getting out of bed and moving can change the trajectory of our lives by keeping our hearts strong and giving us purpose and joy.

I hope you join me in my journey!

Up at 3 to start the week. Temperature dropped 20 degrees after yesterday’s 50 this morning was 29. At least the wind wasn’t quite as bad. I ran 4 miles this morning and walked .7 miles. I felt really good for most of the run. Gradually adding miles over the next couple of weeks until…

Tough to figure out what to wear this morning. It was 55 degrees when I got up but the wind was whirling at around 15 MPH. So I tried shorts but once I got outside I decided that wasn’t going to be enough. I ended up deciding on long running pants, not sweats, and a…

A new weekend begins with a 2 mile run and a 1.35 mile walk. It was cool this morning. Today is supposed to hit 70 and boy i’m looking forward to that. I’m hoping to get back to daily runs, now that the nasty weather appears to have moved on. I think Spring is now…

What a Week Well this week has been interesting to say the least. We had quite a weather front come in early this week. This front brought in what I like to refer to as 2nd Winter. About 8 inches of the white stuff referred to as snow dumped on us and then the temperatures…

Back outside after yesterday’s rest day. Legs felt better this morning and I was able to run 4 miles without stopping. I finished the morning with 4 miles of running and 1 mile of walking. Nice way to wrap up the week. I had a total of 5 days of exercise this week. My mileage…

Rest Day Took a rest day today due to the nasty storms that ran through the area. Lot’s of thunder and lightning. That gave me a chance to let my legs rest. Back at it tomorrow. Keep Grinding!

Lighter Day It’s amazing how some mornings you can feel like you’ll be conquering the world and other day’s you wonder how you got out of bed. This morning was one of those days. I felt ok, but when I started running things draffed. I guess I was a little sore this morning after 4…

Back to the 3 AM wake up call. The first week after the time change is always challenging. This morning I didn’t really have any issues. That’s always a good sign. I got out onto the road at around 3:45. I ran 3.5 miles and then did a run/walk for another 1.35 miles. All totalted…

Bi-Polar Weather March is a really interesting month. You have no idea what kind of weather your going to wake up to. Yesterday morning it was a balmy 58 degrees. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Absolutely beautiful outside. This morning it was 28 degrees with an 18 mile an hour west wind. Today…
