Running Against Father Time

I love running. I’m not all that good at but I’ve been running for the better part of the past 20 years. I’ve run 10k’s, 5k’s and half marathons.

My times are not the fastest or the slowest, but I’ve tried to be consistent.

I’m in my 60’s now, and I fight a daily battle with Type 1 Diabetes. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do no that I’m not going to stop doing the things I love anytime soon. I want to live a long life and enjoy time with my new grandson, my daughters and especially the love of my life, Cara.

In life It’s not about the times, the wins or the losses, It’s about grinding and moving. I believe that we can change the quality of our life by keeping moving. It doesn’t matter what your age, height or weight. Getting out of bed and moving can change the trajectory of our lives by keeping our hearts strong and giving us purpose and joy.

I hope you join me in my journey!

Back issues plagued me last week. I thought I had them licked but they started again Sunday night and ran through the end of the week. So this week i’m starting out and keeping it simple. 1 Mile a day along with some back exersizes to help loosen my back up. If that doesn’t work…

I was able to push out to 5 miles this morning. Slow and steady miles, but miles. My mind was wandering a lot this morning. Issues at work were running through my head. Sometimes I think the running I do is more for psychological reasons than physical reasons. Days like today the psychological rules. Even…

I felt really good this morning. The conditions weren’t great this morning, rainy and misty. In spite of that I was able to run 4 miles this morning and then walked 3/4 of a mile back home. We’ve had a ton of rain lately and it’s wet everywhere. The nice thing is it’s in the…

Finally, back at it. I started off slow this morning. Slow pace and low miles. My back responded well to the running this morning. I’m feeling pretty confident that i’ve healed up pretty well. Last nights rain left a lot of water on the ground today. We haven’t had that hard of a rain in…

March Totals I ended the month of March with only 43 miles for the month. Definitely not my best effort. Between weather and my back injury things didn’t go as planned. April is up next and I need to have a better month if this year’s racing season is going to have any chance. Well,…

Oh Hell! So I decided to add a couple of days a week for some strength training. I’ve lifted on and off my whole life so no big deal, right? Well, that’s where I went wrong. I lifted 4 different days and on day 4 pop, out went my back. I thought I was lifting…

Up at 3 to start the week. Temperature dropped 20 degrees after yesterday’s 50 this morning was 29. At least the wind wasn’t quite as bad. I ran 4 miles this morning and walked .7 miles. I felt really good for most of the run. Gradually adding miles over the next couple of weeks until…

Tough to figure out what to wear this morning. It was 55 degrees when I got up but the wind was whirling at around 15 MPH. So I tried shorts but once I got outside I decided that wasn’t going to be enough. I ended up deciding on long running pants, not sweats, and a…

A new weekend begins with a 2 mile run and a 1.35 mile walk. It was cool this morning. Today is supposed to hit 70 and boy i’m looking forward to that. I’m hoping to get back to daily runs, now that the nasty weather appears to have moved on. I think Spring is now…
